Maintaining Connections Behind Bars
During her recent period of incarceration, The Real Housewives of Potomac star Karen Huger made a conscious decision to narrow her inner circle. The 63-year-old reality personality shared that she leaned heavily on the lessons learned from her time on television to navigate the challenges she faced.
“Bravo stood by me when I went through a lot,” Huger noted in a recent interview. “I often credit the courage that I had from the training I had as a Housewife to make it through and to get sober and to be clean.”
The Role of Andy Cohen
According to Huger, executive producer Andy Cohen was among the very few individuals she permitted to communicate with her while she was serving her time. She expressed deep gratitude for his unwavering presence during a difficult chapter in her life:
“Andy was one of the few people that I allowed to talk to me inside while I was paying my dues, which I needed to do. He was so lovely and so supportive. I adore him. I love him. I am so happy to be a part of his team and his family.”
Focusing on Sobriety and Future Projects
Following her release, Huger has returned to the RHOP cast but opted out of participating in the upcoming The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Roaring 20th. She explained that her primary focus remains on maintaining her health and sobriety as she prepares for the eleventh season of Potomac.
“The offer was made. I thought for my sobriety, ‘Take it slow,’” she shared. “I didn’t want to overdo it, so I’m here to cheer and support. I can’t wait to see it with you guys.”
Moving Forward with Growth
As she eases back into the spotlight, the star, affectionately known as the “Grande Dame,” hopes to highlight her personal progress on the upcoming season of her show. She reflected on the reaction of her castmates, noting that they ultimately respected her commitment to recovery.
“They were so loving and supportive. You know, we’re messy, so come for me. I can handle it. That’s me. But when they understood my commitment to my sobriety, I think they got on board with it,” she said, adding that she encourages others struggling with similar issues to seek help and persevere.
