Following a shift in crew dynamics, Nathan sent a direct text message to Max, attempting to secure his loyalty. The message read: «I’m sure Joe’s been in your ear. I’m gonna get back to the boat at some point, and I need you. Have my back and I’ll for sure make you lead deckhand. Swear.»
The Root of the Conflict
The friction between the two men, who were once close friends after joining the show in season 9, stems from a complicated love triangle that occurred in season 10. «Watching it back and seeing Nathan — who he truly is — is rather refreshing to me. I know who Nathan is, I know what he’s like, how he can react. The fact that he can just switch is so alarming to me because I’ve seen it before.»
Joe emphasized that the crew is still learning Nathan’s true personality, adding that he believes Nathan struggles with temper issues and an impulsive nature.
Looking Toward Professional Growth
Despite the drama, Joe maintains that he is fully committed to his professional responsibilities as a lead deckhand this season. Reflecting on past mistakes, particularly his handling of a romantic situation with Victoria, Joe expressed a desire to approach his work with more maturity.
«My job is my main priority,» Joe stated. «I’m really focused on my job right now. I am taming it down in my romantic life on board to just being one person. I don’t need to be greedy anymore. I’ve had my time and I’m just ready to get the job done.»
