A New Addition to the Family
Actress Aubrey Plaza and her partner, Chris Abbott, have officially welcomed their first child together. Reports indicate that the couple celebrated the arrival of a baby girl in late July.
The news surfaced after the couple was spotted on Sunday, August 9, with the actress seen carrying their newborn while departing from the final performance of the Broadway production Death of a Salesman, in which Abbott starred.
A Joyful Pregnancy Journey
The pregnancy was first confirmed in April, when a representative for the Parks and Recreation star shared the news. Throughout her pregnancy, Plaza maintained her signature humor, notably sharing an anecdote on the SmartLess podcast about a coincidental doctor's visit:
«Today was a big day. I went to the doctor’s today, and my dog also went to the doctor’s. Both of us — my dog’s getting a scan right now. I got a scan earlier. I’m not kidding. She had to get an ultrasound on her stomach. And then I got an ultrasound on my stomach, and there is a baby in there.»
The actress, who has appeared alongside Abbott in films like Black Bear, expressed genuine excitement about motherhood during her pregnancy, noting that she was curious to experience the journey of raising a child.
Public Recognition and Recent Life Changes
Chris Abbott also touched upon the news during an appearance on Today With Jenna and Sheinelle. When congratulated on the upcoming arrival, he expressed his excitement alongside the professional milestone of his Tony Award nomination for his role as Biff Loman.
This period of growth follows a time of significant personal loss for Plaza. Her estranged husband, Jeff Baena, passed away in January 2025. In a later discussion on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast, Plaza spoke candidly about navigating her grief while attempting to move forward. She described her emotional state as a daily process, acknowledging the difficulty of managing personal tragedy while continuing to engage with the world.
