Leadership Changes Behind the Scenes
While the hit series Dutton Ranch has officially been renewed for a second season, the production faces a significant transition period following the departure of its showrunner. Shortly before the show's debut in June 2026, it was confirmed that Chad Feehan, the producer known for his work on Lawmen: Bass Reeves, would not be returning to lead the series.
Reports from April 2026 suggested that Feehan’s exit was sparked by alleged creative and professional friction on set, particularly involving lead actors Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly. According to industry insiders, the core tension stemmed more from Feehan’s management style and production oversight than from the quality of the scripts themselves.
Reflecting on Feehan’s Contribution
Despite the behind-the-scenes turmoil, the creative team has acknowledged Feehan’s efforts in establishing the show's foundation. Executive producer Christina Voros addressed the situation in a May interview, stating: «He did an exceptional job building a world of adversaries for Rip and Beth».
Voros further noted her appreciation for the work Feehan and his team accomplished in effectively crafting a compelling environment for these iconic characters to inhabit.
A Pattern of Production Shifts
The uncertainty regarding the showrunner role is not an isolated incident within Taylor Sheridan’s expansive television slate. Several other projects under Sheridan’s banner, including Lioness, Tulsa King, and Frisco King, have navigated similar leadership transitions. It is not uncommon for these productions to operate without a permanent, season-to-season showrunner.
