Public Conflict Escalates Between Ex-Spouses
Kayla Rae Reid, the former wife of Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte, has issued a public plea to Lochte’s fiancée, Molly Gillihan, demanding that she stop involving her and their children in her social media commentary. The tension between the two women has been a subject of public scrutiny following Reid's split from the athlete in March 2025.
In a recent Instagram Story, Reid expressed her frustration, stating:
«At this point, the continuous desperation for attention is overwhelmingly obvious. And while I recognize that publicly discussing me may generate the attention she’s never received, I would appreciate being left out of it.»
The Core of the Dispute
The latest public exchange appears to have been triggered by comments Gillihan allegedly made regarding the custody arrangements for the three children shared by Reid and Lochte: son Caiden, 9, and daughters Liv Rae, 7, and Georgia June, 3.
Reid countered claims suggesting that the children spent the majority of their summer with their father. She clarified that their legal custody agreement stipulates a one-month stay with Lochte during their two-and-a-half-month break. Furthermore, she noted that holiday time, such as during the Christmas break, is divided equally between the parents.
Setting Boundaries
Reid addressed the ongoing narrative surrounding her family life, criticizing the selective presentation of facts. She remarked on the importance of maintaining boundaries and respect, adding:
«It’s fascinating how selectively facts are presented. And you would think that by marriage number three, her understanding of respect, boundaries and the importance of staying out of someone else’s family matters? But I suppose experience doesn’t always translate into growth.»
While Reid did not directly blame Lochte, she emphasized that a father has a responsibility to «draw a very clear line» when someone publicly disrespects the mother of his children. Reid concluded her statement by asserting that she has no desire to engage in further public arguments, stating she needs to focus on raising her children and once again requested privacy from both parties.
