Fatal Accident in Chatsworth

A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, September 15, when an NBC news helicopter went down in the Chatsworth area of Los Angeles. The crash resulted in the loss of three lives, as confirmed by NBC Los Angeles.


The Incident During Live Coverage

During a live broadcast, KNBC Channel 4 anchor Colleen Williams shared the somber news with the audience. «We knew it was a news chopper, we knew we’d lost contact with our people out there, and we’ve just received the confirmation that, in fact, News Chopper 4 went down just before 7 o’clock tonight in Chatsworth,» stated Williams.


According to reports, the aircraft was in the suburban neighborhood to provide coverage of a nearby bus accident. The victims have been identified as pilot George Marciniw, reporter Eliana Moreno, and a pedestrian who was on the ground at the time of the impact.


Emergency Response and Investigation

The helicopter reportedly crashed in the vicinity of a self-storage facility located in the San Fernando Valley. Local fire department personnel were dispatched to the scene immediately. In addition to the three fatalities, authorities confirmed that one other individual was transported to a medical facility in an unknown condition.


Eyewitnesses at the scene described the harrowing moments following the crash, noting that they observed sudden smoke and heard people screaming as the tragedy unfolded.


Regarding the investigation, the Los Angeles Fire Department indicated that both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are expected to participate in a thorough inquiry into the cause of the disaster. At the time of the crash, the helicopter had been one of several monitoring the situation on the ground, where emergency crews were working to assist passengers from the previously reported bus collision.
