Insights from the Defensive Front
During a recent episode of his podcast, The Rush with Maxx Crosby, Las Vegas Raiders defensive standout Maxx Crosby shared candid details about his high-intensity matchups against Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The discussion centered on their latest clash, where the Chiefs secured a narrow 30-27 victory.
The Reality of Facing the Best
When questioned about how the star quarterback reacts to physical contact during games, Crosby didn't shy away from describing the atmosphere of their rivalry. Reflecting on the game held on October 4, where he recorded three tackles and five quarterback hits, Crosby noted:
«It’s just funny, every time I hit him he rolls over and then he just peeks at me. It’s always my face and I’m just staring at him. But it’s respect, bro. He’s the best quarterback of our generation, you know what I mean?»
Crosby emphasized that the intense competition is driven by his own desire to be elite. He described the nature of their division rivalry as a push to the absolute limit for the sake of victory and entertainment.
High-Speed Battles
The defensive end also recounted the physical toll of the game, mentioning several instances where he delivered powerful hits. He admitted that the speed of professional play makes it difficult to assess whether a quarterback has released the ball in time.
«A couple times I’m just like, ‘Hold the ball for a split half-second more,’» Crosby remarked, explaining the split-second uncertainty that comes with pass-rushing at full speed.
Looking Ahead
Following the narrow victory, Mahomes expressed appreciation for the atmosphere at Allegiant Stadium, highlighting the energy provided by traveling Chiefs fans. The two teams are scheduled for a rematch in Kansas City on January 10, which will mark the conclusion of the regular season.
