Tragic Incident in Memphis
A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Memphis, Tennessee, on Monday, August 18, resulting in the death of 5-year-old Tamir Washington. The young boy suffered a fatal gunshot wound after discovering a firearm belonging to his father, Marquavious Washington, while inside their home.
According to reports, the child’s mother, Rodnesha Walker, had briefly stepped out of the room where Tamir was eating and working on school assignments. During this short period of time, the boy allegedly located the weapon and discharged it, sustaining a critical head injury.
Emergency Response and Investigation
First responders reached the scene promptly, providing immediate medical assistance before transporting the child to a local pediatric hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Tamir was declared deceased less than an hour after the arrival of authorities.
Court documents indicate that upon police arrival, the 24-year-old father was observed in the front yard appearing distressed, claiming he was unaware of how his son had accessed the weapon. Neighbors recounted hearing screams and commotion, with one witness noting that she was alerted to the situation after hearing someone yell, «He shot himself.»
Legal Consequences
Following the investigation, Marquavious Washington was taken into custody and booked into the Shelby County Jail. He is facing several serious charges, including:

- Reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon
