Stephanie Lebo, 38, wife of Jon Gosselin, recently took to social media to express her affection for her stepson, Collin Gosselin. Sharing a series of images from Collin's Fourth of July celebrations, Lebo wrote on her Instagram Story, "Love seeing you live the life you always deserved," adding the encouraging sentiment, "And again, LIVE YOUR LIFE!"
The photos featured 22-year-old Collin enjoying a holiday outing on a boat in Newport Beach, California. In his own post, he reflected on the significance of the holiday, stating:
"Grateful for the people who have fought, served, and worked to expand freedom across generations so that we can call this country home. Feeling blessed to celebrate our history, and commitment to building a nation where people of every background, culture, and community can belong, thrive, and be free."
The Road to a Personal Memoir
This positive social media interaction arrives shortly after the announcement of Collin’s upcoming memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood. The book promises to provide an inside look at his experiences during and after his family’s tenure on the hit TLC reality program Jon & Kate Plus 8.
Reflecting on his upbringing, Collin shared his desire to finally reclaim his own narrative. "My life was always broadcast to millions, but what was actually happening in my life was never shown — in fact, much of it was deliberately kept hidden," he noted. "For years, other people told my story through headlines, television episodes and public speculation."
Longstanding Family Estrangement
The relationship between Collin and his mother, Kate Gosselin, has been severed since he was placed in a behavioral health facility at the age of 11. Following a two-year stay at the institution, Collin moved in with his father, Jon, who ultimately secured legal custody.
Collin has previously alleged that his mother institutionalized him to silence him regarding claims of mistreatment. Kate Gosselin has consistently denied these accusations, maintaining that his placement in the facility was necessary due to his "violent and unpredictable behavior."
Recently, Kate addressed the possibility of pursuing legal action regarding these public allegations. She explained that she had sought counsel from a high-profile attorney years ago, noting that the legal reality for public figures is complex: "The rules are different for ppl in the public eye... The courts don’t honor it if you’re in the public eye."
