A Relaxed Celebration
Selena Gomez and her husband, music producer Benny Blanco, recently marked a significant milestone. The couple, who tied the knot on September 27, celebrated their first wedding anniversary with a modest and intimate evening at home. During the Rare Impact Fund Benefit in Los Angeles on October 16, Gomez shared the details of their special night with Extra.
“Oh, we actually just ate a piece of cake and watched videos in our pajamas,” Gomez admitted, playfully adding, “The wedding videos! We’re so cheesy.”
Reflecting on Their Big Day
The couple’s wedding last year was noted for its departure from traditional high-profile Hollywood ceremonies. According to insiders, the event focused on genuine connection and celebration rather than extravagance.
“The wedding was pretty simple and not your typical ‘celebrity’ lavish wedding. They both just wanted to dance and have fun, and you could feel so much love from them,” one source shared at the time.
Another attendee noted that Gomez was filled with genuine emotion throughout the festivities. “Selena had nerves before doing her first look with Benny, but from that moment on, she was radiating joy. You could tell how happy she was, and she did not stop smiling or crying tears of joy the entire day.”
A Comical Wedding Day Incident
While the wedding was a success, it wasn't without a humorous mishap involving Gomez's Only Murders in the Building co-star, Martin Short. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Short recounted a story about nearly ruining the wedding cake.
Short explained that during the reception, his group of colleagues noticed a small cake near their seating area. Assuming it was intended for their section, he decided to cut a piece for Steve Martin before he departed. To his surprise, the group realized too late that it was actually the primary wedding cake.
“I cut the wedding cake with one side, cut it the other, and then all the people in our group screamed, ‘Marty!’” Short laughed. Despite his attempts to discreetly hide the damage, the secret didn't last long, as Gomez approached him later that evening and joked, “Hey Marty, I heard you tried to eat my cake.”
