Meryl Streep has commented on the controversial fashion moment involving former First Lady Melania Trump in 2018. In a recent conversation with Vogue editor Anna Wintour, the acclaimed actress shared her thoughts on the incident and women's fashion at large.

Streep specifically referenced the green jacket with the phrase "I Really Don't Care, Do U?" that Melania Trump wore while visiting a migrant child detention center. "I think the most... powerful message that our current first lady sent was in that coat," Streep stated, adding that all dress is about expression but is subject to larger historical and political expectations.

The former First Lady had previously explained the jacket was a message for "the left-wing media" and not intended for the children. Streep used the example to pivot to a broader discussion on fashion and power, noting how women in power often feel pressured to appear non-threatening through their attire.

Streep also touched on the upcoming sequel to 'The Devil Wears Prada,' in which she will reprise her iconic role as Miranda Priestly.
