Finding New Purpose Through Advocacy
For Mary Bonnet, exiting the reality show Selling Sunset—a program she had been a part of since its inception—marked the beginning of a transformative period. After spending years in the spotlight, the 45-year-old realtor discovered that stepping away was essential for her mental well-being.
In a recent conversation, Bonnet noted that the timing of her departure felt significant. She explained that focusing her efforts on the animal shelter crisis in Los Angeles has provided a necessary distraction and a positive outlet. Reflecting on this shift, she shared:
«I thought I was saving the animals, but I think they saved me, really. Because I was so frustrated and so over what was going on with the show and with some of the girls.»
Moving Beyond Reality Television
Bonnet had been a staple of the series since it debuted in 2021. Her decision to walk away after nine seasons caught many fans by surprise. While she remains open to future opportunities, she is currently focused on her career in the real estate market and her volunteer work.
Regarding the future of the show, she remains supportive but detached, stating, «I’ll watch season 10, but for right now, I don’t want to have any involvement in all of that. It was an amazing run and I’m so grateful for it. But I’m needed in other places right now—and in other ways.»
Supporting Animal Rescue Efforts
Since leaving the cameras behind, Bonnet has dedicated significant time to fostering dogs and raising awareness about animal adoption. She is particularly passionate about dispelling myths surrounding shelter pets.
«There’s a big misconception that shelter dogs are damaged,» Bonnet explained. «They are the most appreciative and loving animals. Even if it is just to foster for two weeks. They are so appreciative and so loving and they just want kindness and love.»
She is now calling on the public to assist in these rescue efforts, emphasizing that even small actions, such as sharing social media posts about adoptable animals, can have a major impact on saving lives.
