A Defense of the Pop Icon

Marjorie Taylor Greene recently stepped forward to defend Taylor Swift following a series of disparaging comments made by Donald Trump. The controversy stems from the singer's recent high-profile wedding to Travis Kelce.

During an appearance on The View, the former congresswoman expressed her support for the newlyweds. «First of all, congratulations to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. I thought it was fantastic,» Greene stated. She further criticized the former president’s behavior, noting, «I think it’s absolutely absurd for the 80-year-old president of the United States to attack one of the most popular musicians and talented women who’s so generous to her staff and takes care of them.»

The Root of the Rivalry

When asked why Trump might be targeting the 36-year-old artist, Greene suggested that the motivation lies in popularity metrics. She noted that Swift's concert attendance figures consistently eclipse the turnout at Trump's own events, such as his recent Great American State Fair gathering in Washington, D.C.

«I think that’s why he’s always picking on her because he would like to be [as popular as she is],» Greene suggested.

Conflicting Claims Over Social Media Influence

The tension between the two public figures recently expanded to social media performance. According to information from The Economic Times, Trump claimed during a press conference that he maintains a dominant presence on TikTok. «You know who the No. 1 person in TikTok is by far? Trump, me. I’m No. 1,» he asserted, contrasting his standing against the singer, whom he placed at number 11.

Trump also commented on his usage of the platform, claiming his messaging—which focuses on patriotism and opposition to communism—serves a positive purpose, regardless of the broader debate surrounding the app's influence.

A Pattern of Public Conflict

This incident is not an isolated event in the strained relationship between Trump and Swift. Following the couple's wedding at Madison Square Garden, the official White House X account shared a parody image of the announcement billboards outside the venue. While the originals read «JusT&T Married,» the altered image featured the text «Trump is your president.»

These actions follow a history of hostile statements from the former president. In September 2024, Trump utilized his Truth Social platform to declare, «I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!» and continued his critique in May 2025 by questioning the singer's public appeal.
