A New Chapter for Private Eyes
For years, fans of Private Eyes eagerly anticipated the moment their favorite on-screen duo, Jason Priestley and Cindy Sampson, would finally become a couple. However, the actors themselves admit that shifting the dynamic from platonic to romantic required a bit of adjusting.
The Chemistry Behind the Scenes
Ahead of the October 5 premiere, Sampson, 48, shared her admiration for her long-time co-star. She remarked, “I love Jason and I really couldn’t ask for a better partner in crime. He’s always championed me. He’s awesome and he’s just been a great person to work with.” Despite their strong professional bond, Sampson jokingly admitted that adding romance to the mix was a challenge, quipping, “If I could not kiss him at work, I’d be very happy about that too.”
Priestley, 58, echoed the sentiment of mutual respect. “I love Cindy. Whatever we’re doing together, I’m happy,” he noted. Addressing the humorous awkwardness of their scripted intimacy, he explained, “We’ve known each other and we’ve been friends for so long. For her, it was like kissing her brother, which is weird. But she seemed to get over it.”
Reuniting for Private Eyes: West Coast
Following the conclusion of the original Canadian series in 2021, the pair is set to reunite for Private Eyes: West Coast. The new installment picks up significantly later in the lives of their characters, Shade and Angie.
Priestley offered a glimpse into where the characters stand today:
- Life Transitions: Shade is currently focused on a book tour and embracing retirement in Victoria while balancing his role as a full-time father.
- Angie’s Struggle: Angie is dealing with the shift that comes with her child growing older and needing her less, leading her to seek a way to reintegrate into society.
According to Priestley, the spark to return to their investigative roots comes quickly. When the opportunity arises in the pilot episode, Angie is eager to jump back into action. While Shade is initially more hesitant, he ultimately supports his wife. “Because he’s a good supportive husband, he says, ‘Angie, if you want to do this, I guess we’re doing it.’ He gets on board pretty quick,” Priestley shared.
Private Eyes: West Coast premieres on The CW on Monday, October 5, at 8 p.m. ET.
