Hailee Steinfeld is getting candid about her “vulnerable” new reality after giving birth to her first baby with husband Josh Allen.

“You know how some weeks feel beautifully full, others strangely slow?” the 29-year-old actress wrote in the Friday, May 15, edition of her “Beau Society” newsletter. “Well, somehow, these past few have managed to be both.”

Steinfeld, who announced last month that she and Allen had welcomed a daughter, has been navigating the emotional and physical highs and lows of postpartum life.

“You guys always ask me what I’m reading, and currently it’s The First 40 Days,” she shared, revealing that actress Ayo Edebiri sent her a postpartum care package after they co-presented at the 2026 Golden Globes in January. “I sent her a rambling voice note the other day to let her know how often I’ve been reaching into her postpartum emergency kit — daily!”

“There’s a paragraph early on that talks about how even forty days after giving birth, you’re still in such a vulnerable state,” Steinfeld wrote. “People understand that about your new baby, but they don’t understand that about you, the mom.”

She added, “I’m still in this early period and need to remember to be super gentle with myself in every way — physically, mentally, nutritionally, spiritually, all of it.”

Steinfeld has also adjusted her usual fitness routine and is following nutritional advice from both The First 40 Days and her doula. “In general, [my doula] advised me to stick to warm foods during my postpartum recovery to help digestion and boost nutrient absorption, a philosophy that stems from Ayurveda,” she said. “Knowing this, my mom made me this amazing albondigas soup the other day. It’s one of those rare soups that looks as good as it tastes.”

Steinfeld and Josh Allen, also 29, have been together since 2023 and married two years later.
