Mariano Rubinacci, the entrepreneur who steered the global growth of the esteemed Rubinacci tailoring atelier, has died at the age of 83. His son, Luca, shared heartfelt memories, stating, "I'll miss our early-morning conversations... He was as curious as a young boy." The family expressed their grief in a social media post, thanking him for his "elegance, your example, and your love."
Born in 1943, Mariano was the son of Gennaro "Bebè" Rubinacci, who founded the Naples workshop "London House" in 1932, tailoring for Italy's last king. Mariano officially took over in 1961 after his father's death, having been involved since his teens. He is credited with preserving the house's signature sartorial details, like the "mappina" shoulder and "barchetta" pocket.
Under his leadership, the company rebranded as Rubinacci in 1963 and expanded internationally, opening boutiques on Milan's Via Montenapoleone and later on London's Mount Street—a tribute to his father's Anglophilia. Rubinacci is survived by his wife Barbara and four children, who continue to run the business. A funeral service will be held in Naples.
