Incident at Wexford Hospital

Phil Jurkovec, a 26-year-old former collegiate quarterback who played for Notre Dame, has been taken into custody following allegations that he stole a rental box truck. The incident reportedly took place on Friday, September 18, at the Wexford Hospital located in Allegheny County, near Pittsburgh.

According to reports, an employee from the equipment rental firm Rental Time was preparing to load furniture into the vehicle when it was suddenly commandeered. Deborah Clager, the owner of the rental company, recounted the surprise of the moment to the media: «He heard the doors open and close and all of a sudden the truck just took off. I thought he was joking. There’s no way this is happening.»

Apprehension and Legal Proceedings

Law enforcement officials were able to locate the stolen vehicle quickly by utilizing its integrated GPS tracking system. The truck was eventually intercepted in Cranberry Township, where officers identified Jurkovec as the individual behind the wheel. Reflecting on the unusual nature of the crime, Clager noted: «It’s easy to spot. It’s not a sports car that’s easy to zip in and out. It’s a huge, 18-foot box truck.»

Following his arrest, Jurkovec was hit with two felony charges: receiving stolen property and theft by unlawful taking. Court documentation indicates that he is currently being detained at the Allegheny County Jail after failing to post the required $25,000 bail. His preliminary court appearance is slated for September 30.

Athletic and Professional Background

Jurkovec’s history in sports is notable; he was a highly touted four-star recruit coming out of high school, recognized as one of the top quarterback prospects in Pennsylvania. His collegiate career included stints at:

  • Notre Dame (2018–2019)
  • Boston College
  • University of Pittsburgh

His most statistically productive period occurred during the 2020 season with Boston College, where he recorded 2,558 passing yards and 17 touchdowns. Following his college tenure, Jurkovec participated in a 2024 minicamp for the Pittsburgh Steelers but did not secure a spot on the roster. More recently, he held a position as a legislative aide for a Pennsylvania state representative, though records indicate that his employment concluded in November 2025.
