The White House has formally addressed circulating reports suggesting that President Donald Trump appeared to be dozing during the funeral service for the late Senator Lindsey Graham. In a statement provided to the media on Wednesday, July 29, White House representative Davis Ingle dismissed the claims as “Fake News.”
Ingle further remarked that such accusations are being “peddled by individuals who clearly suffer from a severe and incurable disease known as Trump Derangement Syndrome.” This recent response marks a shift from earlier comments made to other press outlets, where officials suggested that the president was merely “reflecting on the loss of his dear friend Lindsey Graham, for whom he had just delivered a beautiful eulogy.”
The Funeral Service
Senator Lindsey Graham, a long-serving politician from South Carolina, passed away on July 11 at the age of 71 following a sudden illness. During the ceremony held at the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter & Saint Paul, President Trump delivered a eulogy for the late senator. During the event, television cameras and photographers captured a moment where the president appeared to briefly close his eyes, sparking the public speculation.
In his tribute to the senator, Trump praised Graham's influence on American politics:
“For more than 30 years, nothing of consequence happened in this capital without Lindsey Graham knowing about it. Nothing of significance happened anywhere in the world without Lindsey Graham having a view on it, and no bill became law in the most exceptional republic in human history without Lindsey Graham having a say in it.”

Reflecting on his character, Trump stated, “He was a man who gave America the full measure of his good and mighty heart until that heart itself just gave out.”
Public attention regarding the president's alertness during events has surfaced previously, including an incident during an NBA game involving the New York Knicks last June, where similar observations were made by onlookers. Addressing general concerns about his attentiveness in the past, the president noted, “When you love your job, when you love your country, and when you’re in a position like we are … you’re thinking about your country.
