A Gradual Approach to Medication
TV personality Rosie O’Donnell has provided a detailed look into her ongoing experience with the weight-loss medication Mounjaro. Over the past three years, the 64-year-old has successfully shed approximately 60 pounds. During a recent appearance on the Bleep! With Ana Navarro podcast, she explained her specific strategy regarding medication dosages.
O’Donnell noted that she has intentionally maintained a slow pace to manage the transition effectively. Her protocol has been methodical:
- The first year was spent on the lowest dose of 2.5 milligrams.
- The second year involved an increase to 5 milligrams.
- She is currently concluding a year at 7.5 milligrams.
The star expressed that she intends to raise her dosage only one more time before leveling off. Regarding her physical response to the drug, she noted: «I like doing it at a slow pace. I like how it feels that I’m not sick, that I’ve never had any kind of side effects.» This lack of adverse reactions surprised the podcast host, as O’Donnell confirmed she has not experienced any of the common gastrointestinal issues often associated with such treatments.
Overcoming Long-Term Struggles
O’Donnell reflected on the emotional and historical factors that contributed to her lifelong struggle with weight. She highlighted the impact of childhood trauma and the lack of nutritional access following the death of her mother. She recalled how she and her siblings, left to shop for the family with limited funds, would prioritize processed snacks over fresh food due to budget constraints.
For O’Donnell, Mounjaro has been a transformative tool. «Mounjaro saved my life,» she stated, emphasizing that the medication helped silence the constant internal preoccupation with food. She expressed a desire to advocate for the drug's accessibility, noting the societal stigma and shame often directed at those dealing with obesity.
«It’s a miracle drug,» she concluded. «I was stunned how it quieted the food noise. I’ve had trouble with my weight my whole life. I know some people are ashamed to talk about it but I wanted to show how it helped me and I don’t like secrets as a whole.»
