A Farewell to the Pogues
Wrapping up a long-running series is never an easy task, but the final season of Netflix’s Outer Banks aimed to deliver a conclusion that honored its journey. Caroline Arapoglou, who portrays Rose, recently reflected on the show's departure, describing the finale as a heartfelt tribute to the fans who have followed the story for five seasons.
“The whole finale is just such a love letter to everyone who has ridden with us for these past five seasons,” Arapoglou shared. “It’s a show where you just want to see the Pogues get a happy ending — and I think that was the right way to end it.”
Revisiting Early Seasons and On-Set Bonds
Arapoglou noted that the final production period managed to recapture the aesthetic and spirit of the show's debut season, despite the naturally bittersweet atmosphere on set. The filming process was particularly memorable due to the rare opportunity for the cast to reunite.
“From a practical standpoint, it was so much fun to film. It’s so rare that we’re all together on the same day,” she explained. “It was like all of the Pogues and the Kooks. Having us all together was really rare, and so that whole day itself was a bit of a party.”
The Evolution of Rose
Throughout the series, Arapoglou’s character, Rose, remained a complex figure. The actress emphasized that, regardless of Rose's morally ambiguous choices, her primary motivation was always her loyalty to the Cameron family.
“I’ve always maintained throughout the entire run of the show that Rose really did love Ward and she really does care about the kids. Her methods might — on the surface — be a little bit morally gray, but for me, the heart of her has always been that she really does care about the family.”
The final season presented physical challenges for the actress as well. During the filming of a high-stakes scene where her character is attacked by Groff, Arapoglou was secretly pregnant. She credited her stunt double for managing the demanding physical requirements of that sequence.
Looking Toward the Future
Regarding Rose’s final moments, Arapoglou expressed satisfaction that her character found a place within the family fold, even if she believes Rose now needs a period of rest and reflection. As for the possibility of the Outer Banks universe expanding in the future, the actress didn't rule out a return.
“Our writers are so good at what they do,” she teased. “They have all kinds of ideas. If they were to come up with some kind of a spinoff, I would definitely take that call.”
