Addressing Pay Disparity Allegations

Louisa Levy, the mastermind behind the Prime Video series Off Campus, has stepped forward to address recent reports claiming that male and female cast members received vastly different compensation for their work on the show.

The controversy emerged following a recent episode of the In the Vault podcast, which provided a breakdown of alleged salaries for the cast. According to the podcast, male actors were reportedly paid as follows:

  • Belmont Cameli: $260,000
  • Josh Heuston: $200,000
  • Stephen Kalyn: $120,000
  • Antonio Cipriano: $120,000

The hosts asserted that female stars Mika Abdalla and Ella Bright earned significantly less, claiming their salary was approximately $160,000 per season. In a direct response to these allegations, Levy utilized the comments section to refute the podcast’s narrative, denying the accuracy of the financial claims.


Adapting the Source Material

Off Campus, inspired by the popular book series by Elle Kennedy, chronicles the lives of an elite ice hockey team and the women close to them as they navigate the challenges of adulthood, romance, and friendship. The show's first season, which debuted in May, focused primarily on the relationship between Hannah (Bright) and Garrett (Cameli).

While fans initially expected the show to follow the chronological order of Kennedy’s novels, the series opted for a creative shift, centering the second season on characters Dean and Allie (Abdalla). Regarding the transition from page to screen, Levy explained the collaborative creative process:

«We have a lot of stories told in different ways. We have eight episodes instead of the whole book, so we really started with the things that were super nonnegotiable — that without those things it wouldn’t be Off Campus.»

Levy added that the production team worked diligently to honor the source material while structuring the show for television: «From there, we added as many of the book moments as we could. We dropped them in like Easter eggs, and we just really spent time taking one’s inside character and externalizing them.»
