The Search and Discovery

Following the tragic death of Matt Brown, his brother Noah Brown has provided insight into the coordinated search efforts that ultimately led to the discovery of Matt’s remains. In a recent statement, Noah explained that multiple nonprofit search teams had been working in tandem to locate his brother.

According to Noah, the breakthrough came when a local search team notified him via text message around 3:27 p.m. that they had located Matt in the Okanogan River in Washington state. Upon receiving the news, Noah arrived at the scene, where the search team had already taken the initiative to recover the body from the water.

«Then myself and the rest of the people that were looking hauled the skiff up further on the shore, and that’s where it was … when the coroner came,» Noah noted. «Right now, all I can say is that he was lost in the river. He was lost in the river and we found him.»

Identifying the Remains

Noah confirmed that he was present at the scene to assist local authorities with the formal identification of his brother. He emphasized the importance of this moment for his family, stating that seeing the remains firsthand provided a necessary, albeit painful, sense of closure.

«My family has this thing that if we don’t see the body and one of us is able to confirm otherwise, there is, like, a little glimmer of hope that maybe they’re still out there,» Noah shared. «His ID was on him, his social security was on him. And I, personally, I personally ID’d him. They unzipped the body bag for me, and I was able to visually ID [my brother].»

Family Statement and Legacy

The Brown family released a collective statement reflecting on Matt's life and the ongoing challenges he faced. They expressed pride in the impact Matt had on others, particularly regarding his transparency about his personal struggles.

«We are incredibly proud of the lives he touched. Some of the messages we treasure most are from people who told us Matt’s honesty about addiction and recovery gave them hope during their own darkest moments,» the family stated. They acknowledged that Matt faced long-term battles with mental health and addiction, issues that they described as complex and deeply influential in his daily life.

The family also touched upon the emotional volatility inherent in supporting a loved one through such crises, describing a cycle of «hope, recovery, setbacks, heartbreak, reconciliation, and renewed hope again.» Currently, Matt’s remains are with the coroner, and an autopsy is underway to determine an official cause of death.
