Reflecting on a Pop Past
Mandy Moore, 42, first rose to prominence in 1999 with her catchy pop single “Candy” before transitioning into a successful acting career, highlighted by her celebrated role in This Is Us. Recently, in an interview with Variety, the star was questioned about whether she might emulate her close friend Hilary Duff, who recently made a musical comeback with a new album and a world tour.
Moore expressed admiration for her friend, stating, “I am not the superstar that Hilary is. I am so proud to watch her absolutely crush it on stage and performing around the country. She is such a role model to so many, myself included.”
Future Musical Ambitions
When addressing the possibility of her own return to music, Moore maintained a humble perspective. “I don’t have that canon of hits in the same way, and I’ve never had designs on being a pop star,” she explained. However, she remains open to performing once her children—Gus, 5, Ozzie, 3, and Louise, 2, whom she shares with husband Taylor Goldsmith—are older.
“My husband’s an indie singer-songwriter. I want to play theaters across the country and have him in my band and write records with him and friends of mine. I will find my way back to music.”
A New Generation Discovers “Candy”
While Moore focuses on motherhood, her past music has found a new fan in her son, Gus. She shared in a recent conversation with People that Gus has become fond of her breakthrough hit, “Candy.”
“I don’t know how or why, because I would not play that for him, but now he wants to hear it in the car,” she noted, jokingly adding that she had to put a limit on how often it plays. She found it particularly amusing when Gus pointed out that he is currently close to the age she was when she recorded the song, remarking on the generational connection to her early work.
