One of the final screen performances by the late Rob Reiner has received high honors within the television industry. During the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys held on Sunday, September 5, Reiner was posthumously awarded the title of Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of Albert Schnur in the fourth season of FX's critically acclaimed show The Bear.
The audience showed their respect with a standing ovation as presenter Wendi McLendon-Covey accepted the accolade on the actor's behalf. Reflecting on the moment, the 56-year-old actress remarked, «We all wish he was here.» Reiner secured the win over a competitive field of nominees, which included Michael J. Fox and Brett Goldstein for Shrinking, Hamish Linklater for Widow’s Bay, Christopher McDonald for Hacks, and Connor Storrie for his appearance on Saturday Night Live.
Reflecting on a Family Tragedy
The honor comes nearly eight months after the tragic events of December 14, 2025, when Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were discovered deceased at their residence in Brentwood, California. Their son, 32-year-old Nick Reiner, was subsequently taken into custody and faces murder charges. He has entered a plea of not guilty and is currently detained at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles.
The Impact on the Family
For the couple's surviving children, Jake, 35, and Romy, 28, the grieving process has been a complex and difficult journey. In a recent interview on Good Morning America, Jake Reiner shared the surreal nature of his loss, noting, «It’s been eight months. It feels like eight years at the same time, and it also feels like eight minutes. Every moment that I wake up, I’m reminded of my reality.»
In a previous essay, Jake expressed his deep admiration for his parents, stating, «They were the last people in the world to deserve what happened to them. They deserved to be loved, they deserved to be respected, and above all they deserved to be appreciated for how much they gave to all three of us and to the world.»
