A Necessary Hiatus for Recovery

Legendary rock musician Joan Jett has announced the cancellation of upcoming tour dates as she recovers from orthopedic surgery. The procedure was required to address a fractured vertebra sustained from a recent injury.

In a statement shared via the artist's social media, representatives confirmed that the 67-year-old star is now entering a period of rehabilitation. Due to medical advice, Jett will no longer perform at her scheduled concerts in Costa Mesa, California, on September 5, or in Louisville, Kentucky, on September 24.

«While Joan hates to disappoint fans, she will be taking this time to focus on physical therapy and healing. She’s looking forward to delivering tremendous concerts for many years to come.»

Understanding the Healing Process

According to medical experts at the Cleveland Clinic, recovering from a spinal fracture is a delicate process. While non-surgical healing can take roughly three months, a surgical intervention often extends the recovery timeline. Patients typically require at least six weeks of initial post-operative rest, followed by several additional months of healing for the spine to regain full strength.

A Life Devoted to Touring

Prior to this injury, Jett had been maintaining a busy touring schedule since May, including a series of performances across Europe. Reflecting on her decades-long career in a recent interview, Jett admitted that the physical demands of life on the road have evolved.

«I’ve been touring every year of my life since I’ve been in a band,» Jett shared. «The touring I don’t mind. It’s the traveling that’s an ass-kicker. As I get older, it’s not easy to recuperate as when I was in my 20s.»

Despite the physical toll, the singer emphasized that the connection with her audience remains her primary motivation for continuing her career. For Jett, the concert stage provides a unique space where both the performer and the fans can find unity and lose themselves in the experience of the music.
