Prioritizing Mental Health Over Career
Social media personality and healthcare professional Jen Hamilton recently announced that she is taking an indefinite hiatus from her nursing career. The 37-year-old, who has served as an ER and obstetrics nurse for over a decade, shared the difficult decision with her followers, explaining that her current emotional state due to her separation from husband Brian Hamilton is incompatible with the demands of patient care.
«My patients do not deserve the mental state that I would bring to the bedside right now,» Hamilton stated in a video update. «One moment, I’m OK. The next moment, I’m not OK.» She emphasized that the unpredictability of her emotional well-being means she cannot provide the level of care her patients require, noting that she needs to focus on being a supportive figure for herself as well as her two sons, Ellis and Luke.
Navigating a Difficult Transition
The couple, who married in 2012, recently confirmed their decision to end their 15-year relationship through a joint public statement. Hamilton initially addressed the split on TikTok in mid-June, admitting that she felt vulnerable and saddened by the situation. In their formal statement, the pair noted that the separation was reached with immense pain, but also with mutual gratitude for their shared history and commitment to their family’s future.
Reflecting on the emotional toll of the split, Hamilton drew a parallel to the labor process she often witnessed throughout her career. «It feels like labor,» she shared. «You’ll be OK for a minute and here comes a contraction! And another thing about this and labor is I don’t know when it’s going to end.»
Focusing on Growth and Future Well-being
Despite the end of their marriage, Hamilton expressed a sincere desire for her estranged husband to thrive on his individual path. She emphasized that she holds no resentment and intends to remain his «biggest cheerleader» as they both navigate this new chapter of their lives.
Looking forward, Hamilton shared her commitment to self-growth and setting a positive example for her children. She stated, «I am going to model for my children what it means to have healthy relationships, healthy self-worth and allowing those that we love the very most in this world to accept and embrace the gift that is accountability and consequence for the decisions that we make in this life.»
