Legal Battle Over Data Theft
Pop superstar Ariana Grande has officially filed a lawsuit in the Los Angeles Superior Court against several anonymous individuals, referred to as John Does, for the unauthorized acquisition of her private digital assets. The legal filing alleges that these hackers systematically compromised the personal accounts of various producers and photographers who collaborate with the artist.
According to the court documents, the impact of these breaches has been significant. “In 2023 alone, 45 unreleased songs belonging to Ms. Grande were hacked, stolen, and leaked by Defendants,” the records state. Furthermore, the filing highlights that such security violations have been occurring since the start of her music career in 2011, totaling hundreds of leaks.
The Intent Behind the Lawsuit
Grande’s legal team has characterized these actions as “unlawful and egregious theft,” emphasizing that the perpetrators have profited from the dissemination and exploitation of her private material. The primary goal of this litigation is to identify and bring to justice the parties responsible for the ongoing data breaches.
History of Leaked Tracks
One of the most notable incidents involved the track “Fantasize,” which surfaced on TikTok in 2021. The song, a collaboration with Max Martin and Savan Kotecha, was originally intended for a comedy project rather than a personal release.
In a 2023 interview on The Zach Sang Show, Grande expressed her frustration regarding these leaks, stating:
«Before I left for Wicked, the few studio sessions I did, which are all over TikTok, thank you so much. I’ll see you in jail! Literally. … That wasn’t my song. It wasn’t for me. It was a parody of a ‘90s girl group vibe. But they loved it. They loved it so much.»
Despite the theft, Grande eventually repurposed elements of the leaked track into her song “The Boy Is Mine,” featured on her 2024 album, Eternal Sunshine.
